SpecsGastro was born a simple denizen of a strange world. People of human builds, save for their heads, walked about and performed tasks much like modern human society. These humans, however possessed heads shaped like those of Pokémon, and could use “moves” much like one would expect of them. Magic, apart from moves, also exists.
It is a strange world lacking in sense. For sake of simplicity, it shall be referred to as the ItemVerse, henceforth.
Even in the ItemVerse, Specs was a strange individual. Whereas regular Gastrodon eyes tend to be circular, from birth, his were diamond-shaped. Naturally, not wanting to be ridiculed for this defect, he chose to wear Choice Specs for his entire life. Names, in the ItemVerse, confer fate. That his name was SpecsGastro certainly guaranteed this outcome.
And so, he lived out a modest childhood and adolescence. He was, indeed, ridiculed for his Choice Specs, an item which clearly did not suit him. All the while, a voice lingered in the back of his mind… Asking him questions. Pushing him to seek answers. He, as such, became heavily invested in deduction, reasoning, investigation, and other such activities. Through his college years, he made a couple of friends in Dillard Scarf, Brandon Doom, and friendly rival in fellow honor student Orbmond Z. His friends supported him, the awkward, withdrawn slug that he was, such that he was even able to find romantic interest for the first time in Blaise Brella, an aspiring fashion designer. It was she who modified the traditional Choice Specs he wore into the curious shape they take even to this day. Surrounded by his companions, Specs was truly happy for the first time in his life.
And yet, the voice continued. Egging him on, asserting that he had greater purpose if he only applied himself. There was a certain affluent man in their city of Endonopolis, who defied logic with his great success. With a name such as Vile Sludge, how could he be so popular, charismatic, and sit atop the city? Specs and his friends investigated, dredging through the deep underbelly of their city to scrounge together any answers they could find. They were, of course, thwarted multiple times. Someone, who only identified themselves as MIRACLE!! impeded their progress at every turn.
Still, the investigation crew pressed on, overcoming many obstacles, and eventually working in tandem with MIRACLE!!, apparently Vile Sludge’s own daughter, to eventually confront the man who appeared to be at the center of everything. He was, of course, untouchable to a few mere college students, and was near ready to kill them outright if they did not flee. But at the moment of climax, clearer than ever before, the voice called out to Specs.
“Will you live with your friends in mediocrity? Or will you pursue the Truth to the ends of the earth?”
Specs made his choice. The world before him was razed. His friends, Vile Sludge, all of it. Naught but smoke, ash, and blinding white, before suddenly, he awoke in a field of grass, quite unlike anything he’d ever seen.
Not a day would pass in 5,500 years where SpecsGastro did not regret the choice he had made.
